Energy & Environment

As part of Duke’s continued leadership in environmental stewardship and sustainability, the university has signed the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment. To achieve Duke's goals, Facilities Management plays an important role in managing the energy and environmental resources of the University.

Led by Energy Manager,  Steve Palumbo, the team has been active in many campus projects such as increasing the number of trees planted at Duke and eliminating the use of coal. Facilities Management is doing its part to create a greener Duke and help the university achieve climate neutrality by 2024.

Whether creating and implementing supply and demand side energy management policies or using environmentally-friendly building practices, Facilities has pledged to help Duke eliminate or offset all campus greenhouse gas emissions over time, and in the process, lead the transition to a sustainable built environment and economy.
